Artigo de magnésio ou sua liga tendo uma camada de superfície contendo fosfato condensado de magnésio e fosfato de magnésio, que pode ser produzida por tratamento de um artigo de magnésio ou sua liga com um líquido de tratamento contendo 1000 a 20 000 ppm de íons de metal alcalino, 1000 a 50 000ppm de íons de fostato condensados, e 100 a 20 000 ppm de íons de borato, e tendo pH de pelo menos 8. O artigo tratado tem boa resistência à corrosão, e um revestimento pode ser formado sobre a superfície do artigo com boa adesão.
