Abstract

Invention Patent: <B> "FOAM CORE COMPOUND PLATE FOR USE ON WALLS AND TOWING DOORS" <D>. New composite plate (20) is used to form a wall (28, 30) or a door (32) of a vehicle, such as a trailer (22) or a van. Each composite plate (20) used in the trailer (22) is formed from a pair of metallic liners (40, 42), such as aluminum or steel, which has a foamed thermal plastic core element (44) sandwiched between them. The coatings (40, 42) are attached to the core element (44) by a known flexible adhesive (46). The foamed thermal plastic core element (44) is resilient and can be made from foamed high density thermal plastic or foamed low density thermal plastic. Foaming of the core element (44) in the present invention reduces the weight of the composite plate (20) against solid plastic core composite plates of the prior art, and provides increased peeling resistance of the composite plate (20) against composite plates of the prior art solid plastic core. In addition, the foaming of the thermal plastic core element (44) in the present invention reduces the shear stresses of the coating towards the core bonding layer, in order to reduce the peeling potential of the metallic coatings (40, 42 ) of the thermal plastic core element (44) under changing temperatures, which has been found to be a problem with solid core composite plates.
