Abstract

The dual-band helical antenna includes two single-band antennas (1304, 1308), each having a supply network (1804, 1808), a ground plane (412) opposite the supply network and a set of one or more radiators (104A to 104D) extending from the supply network. A fin (1504) extends from the supply network of one of the antennas, which provides power for that antenna. The fin (1504) also provides a path or path for current to flow from the radiators of the second antenna along the axis of the second antenna, thereby increasing the energy radiated in directions perpendicular to the axis. The ground plane of one antenna is used as a short ring for the other antenna.
