Abstract

In the continuous treatment of sugar juice by a reaction gas, more esp. CO2- or SO2- contg. gas, introduced into a closed reactor from which the spent reaction gas and treated juice leave separately, comprising the measurement of a treated juice quality evaluating factor and the regulation of the rate of flow of reaction gas so that this factor is maintained at its optimum value, the improvement whereby the spent reaction gas is partly recycled so as to maintain optimum hydrodynamic conditions in the reactor, and more esp. to keep constant the total rate of flow of combined reaction gas and spent gas entering the reactor.
