Process for the production of a plastic from hard rubber dust with the addition of phenol-formaldehyde condensates with excess phenol.

The production of plastics from mixtures of phenol-formaldehyde condensates with hard rubber dust is no longer new. The invention aims to produce an antiseptic plastic from hard rubber dust with the addition of formaldehyde phenol condensates with excess phenol. This purpose is achieved in that the vulcanization time and temperature are measured in such a way that the phenol-formaldehyde condensate does not harden to form the end product, but rather remains as an intermediate product in the end product. The phenol-formaldehyde condensation product to be added is in a viscous or solid state that can still be softened when heated.

The temperature should be below the boiling point of the added phenol so that it can only evaporate to a small extent and remains dissolved in the phenol-formaldehyde condensate, which has assumed a higher degree of condensation under the influence of temperature and time. The antiseptic effect can be explained by the fact that unchanged carbolic acid compounds are present in the intermediate product.

It has proven advantageous to use a mixture of 250 g of hard rubber dust, 200 g of rubber, 150 g of sulfur, 450 g of phenol-aldehyde condensation product and 100 g of cresol, to allow the vulcanization to last about 15 minutes and to use a temperature of about 1200 C to 1300 C. .

The invention is suitable for a large number of utensils, such as. B. medical instruments, telephone earpieces, etc., which should be antiseptic for hygienic reasons.
