EMI1.1

EMI1.1
The invention relates to the preparation of carbonate of ammonia by the interaction of ammonia, carbonic acid and water vapor. The process is carried out in a known manner in such a way that the three components are brought together at temperatures which are above the decomposition temperature of the carbonate of ammonia and then cooled to lower temperatures. The cooling takes place in a known manner in sublimation chambers.
When carrying out these known processes, it was found that the products obtained do not have a completely uniform composition, as the layers deposited first in the sublimation chamber have a higher percentage of carbonate of ammonia than the layers above them that were produced in the last period.
The surprising observation has now been made that a solid product of consistently uniform consistency is obtained if only the upper part of the sublimation chamber is cooled while heat is supplied to it from below. As tests have shown, this method of operation not only achieves a uniform product, but also the further advantage that the yield of sublimed product is increased, while at the same time the carbonate of ammonia is deposited more rapidly on the walls, so that the increased yield goes hand in hand with a simultaneous shortening of the reaction time.
EMI1.2
and a gas mixture consisting of water vapor is introduced into the sublimation chamber through the intermediary of a pipe, the required heat being supplied either by heating the pipe or by passing the carbonic acid or ammonia or both through heated water. The present invention can be used advantageously in connection with the experiences of these older (Jsterjf'ichischen patents; however, it is not limited to the joint use of the Austrian patents, since of course the gas-steam mixes without the intermediary of a pipe in the according to the present
