Abstract
Métodos para la producción de sulfato de potasio. Los métodos comprenden poner en contacto una composición que contiene potasio y sulfato acuosos con cloruro de magnesio (MgCl₂), para obtener de este modo una composición que comprende kainita; en forma opcional concentrar la kainita a partir de la composición y reducir o eliminar la halita de la misma; reaccionar la kainita con sulfato de magnesio (MgSO₄) y sulfato de potasio (K₂SO₄) con el fin de convertir la kainita en leonita (K₂SO₄ MgSO₄.4H₂O.); en forma opcional poner en contacto la leonita con agua para eliminar el exceso de MgSO₄; y poner en contacto la leonita con agua con el fin de lixiviar el MgSO₄, contenido en la leonita, y para precipitar por lo menos sustancialmente en forma selectiva el sulfato de potasio (K₂SO₄), que además implica un paso de control de sulfato de salmuera del proceso, con base en la precipitación de bloedita, para controlar el nivel general de sulfato en el método y que además comprende un paso para la reducción o la eliminación sustancialmente completa de halita del concentrado de flotación, acompañado por una precipitación adicional de kainita, lo que de ese modo también aumenta la recuperación general de kainita en el proceso. El método se puede operar a temperaturas más altas, en particular a temperaturas por encima de 35ºC y no requiere un paso de enfriamiento a 20 hasta 25ºC. El método produce sulfato de potasio con baja cantidad de cloruro.
