Abstract
Un proceso para producir nitrato de amonio en donde: a) se expone una alimentación oxidante gaseosa compuesta al menos sustancialmente por amoníaco, vapor y un gas oxidante a condiciones bajo las cuales el amoníaco se oxida para producir una mezcla de reacción que incluye monóxido de nitrógeno y vapor de agua, b) la mezcla de reacción se enfría en un intercambiador de calor con lo cual se oxida el monóxido de nitrógeno, se condensa el vapor de agua y los productos de la oxidación del monóxido de nitrógeno reaccionan y son absorbidos por el agua condensada para formar un flujo de ácido nítrico, donde sustancialmente todo el monóxido de nitrógeno en la mezcla de reacción es convertido en ácido nítrico, y c) el flujo de ácido nítrico se hace reaccionar con un flujo de amoníaco en una etapa de producción de nitrato de amonio para formar el nitrato de amonio, Sustancialmente todo el vapor en la alimentación oxidante deriva de la etapa de producción de nitrato de amonio, y al menos un 10% del amoníaco en la alimentación oxidante deriva y es llevada por el vapor de la etapa de producción de nitrato de amonio. También se divulga nitrato de amonio, en cualquiera de sus diversas formas posibles, cuando fue producida mediante el proceso divulgado.
