Abstract
This refers to a process for the hydro-oxidation of an olefin having three or more carbon atoms, such as propylene, to form an olefin oxide, such as propylene oxide. The process includes contacting the olefin with oxygen in the presence of hydrogen and a hydro-oxidation catalyst containing gold deposited on a support containing titanium, preferably a titanosilicate, and in the presence of a halogen-containing compound, preferably a halide promoter such as a promoter chloride or a mixture of a promoter chloride with one or more fluorides, bromides and / or promoter iodides, wherein the promoter comprises a Group 1 metal, Group 2, of the rare earths nests or active metals. nests of the Periodic Table of the Elements. The halogen-containing compound improves catalyst selectivity, hydrogen efficiency, and / or productivity, while reducing water formation, which is formed as a concomitant product and as a byproduct of the process. Claim 1: An improved hydro-oxidation process for the preparation of an olefin oxide, comprising contacting an olefin having three or more carbon atoms, with oxygen in the presence of hydrogen and in the presence of a catalyst of hydro-oxidation, which comprises gold deposited in a support containing titanium, where gold is supplied to the catalyst in the form of a gold source, and the contact is carried out under sufficient process conditions to produce the corresponding olefin oxide ; wherein the best comprises carrying out the process in the presence of a halogen-containing compound, such that the process employs an atomic ratio of halogen with respect to gold greater than the atomic ratio of halogen with respect to the corresponding gold of the source of gold; and provided that when cesium or palladium is present in the catalyst with a compound containing chlorine or chloride, then the catalyst comprises at least one additional halogen other than chlorine. Claim 16: A catalyst comprising gold and at least one halogen-containing compound deposited on a titanium-containing support, wherein gold is supplied to the catalyst from a gold source, such that the catalyst has an atomic ratio halogen with respect to gold greater than the corresponding atomic ratio of halogen with respect to gold from the gold source; and provided that when cesium or palladium is present in the catalyst with chloride or a chlorine-containing compound, then the catalyst comprises at least one additional halogen other than chlorine.
