Abstract

Un procedimiento para preparar productos compuestos reconstituidos y dimensionalmente estables a partir de material lignocelulósico. Mediante el tratamiento de lignocelulosa con vapor de alta presión para descomponer e hidrolizar la hemicelulosa, celulosa y fracciones de lignina de la lignocelulosa y mediante el uso de estos productos de descomposición tanto como un agente ligante como aglomerante, se convierte, al calor y bajo presión en una operación de moldeo, la lignocelulosa tratada en productos compuestos moldeados tal como paneles y artículos moldeados. Los productos compuestos producidos de este modo poseen buenas propiedades físicas y mecánicas. Específicamente, la estabilidad dimensional, en términos de aumento de espesor y expansión lineal de paneles, tal como tableros de fibra y tableros de partículas, pueden minimizarse hasta niveles muy bajos cuando los paneles son de alta densidad. La adhesión desarrollada a partir de la termoestabilización de los productos de descomposición de hemicelulosa, celulosa y lignina es fuerte y estable, y resistente al agua en ebullición y la hidrólisis ácida, y es libre de emisiones de formaldehído. De este modo, los paneles reconstituidos y los productos moldeados son adecuados para aplicaciones exteriores y particularmente interiores. La ausencia de emisiones de formaldehído hace que el producto sea muy adecuado para aplicaciones interiores. El costo de fabricación para los productos reconstituidos es significativamente menor en comparación con el proceso convencional debido a que no se utiliza la costosa resina sintética.
