Abstract
Aparato y método para inspeccionar un envase (14) por variaciones que afectan la aceptabilidad comercial del envase que incluye una fuente de luz (16) para dirigir energía de luz polarizada difusa a través de un envase mientras el envase es girado alrededor de su eje. Una primera cámara (24) está dispuesta para recibir energía de luz polarizada difusa transmitida desde la fuente de luz a través de una porción del envase, de modo que la cámara recibe una imagen de la porción de envase en la cual aparecen variaciones opacas oscuras contra un fondo en otros lados brillantes. Una segunda cámara (28) recibe energía de luz transmitida desde la fuente de luz a través de substancialmente la misma porción del envase, e incluye un polarizador (32) en orientación cruzada al polarizador en la fuente de luz. La segunda cámara recibe una imagen brillante de variaciones de tensión en el envase, las cuales alteran la polarización de la energía de luz polarizada difusa que pasa a través del envase, contra un fondo en otros lados oscuro. Un procesador de imagen (41) está acoplado a ambas cámaras para barrer imágenes de la porción de envase vistas por las cámaras para detectar y distinguir entre variaciones en el envase como una función de una comparación de pixel por pixel entre las dos imágenes.
