Abstract
Det er tilveiebrakt en fremgangsmåte for bruk av optisk tidsdomenereflektometri (OTDR) med et toveis optisk overføringssystem som inkluderer en flerhet av terminaler som er innbyrdes sammenbundet av første og andre enveis optiske overføringsbaner i hvilke det er minst én repeater. Fremgangsmåten begynner med sending av et prøvesignal fra en første terminal, gjennom repeateren, over den første optiske overføringsbane. Et returnert OTDR-signal mottas over den første optiske overføringsbane, i hvilket statusinformasjon som vedrører den første optiske overføringsbane er innbefattet. Det returnerte OTDR-signal omformes til et digitalisert elektrisk signal, og det digitaliserte elektriske signal omformes til et optisk datasignal. Til slutt sendes det optiske datasignal over den annen optiske overføringsbane, til den første terminal, for ekstrahering av statusinformasjonen som er innbefattet i dette.
