Abstract

The system is for passing a structure eg a tunnel, drain etc through an embankment etc, the hollow tubular structure being placed with one open end against the embankment and moved forward through it as the spoil is removed from inside. To move the structure (8, 9) forward, draw rods (7) are passed through the ground ahead of it, emerging at the other side of the embankment, where they are anchored (12-15). They are then attached to the structure and used to pull is forward. The members can be rods pressed directly, or hammered, through the ground, or alternatively ropes passed through tubes previously driven through.
