Abstract

Production of insulated cable by extruding the material to obtain a tubular insulator in a single process. The extruded insulator has a continuous spiral shape which is wrapped around the electrical conductor (12) to form a support. The spiral elements (25) can be applied either with a stroke that is near enough constant or with a random or pseudo random stroke. The tubular insulator is then surrounded by another conductor to form a coaxial cable. The extension machine (10) has a rotary shaft (17) which fits into a bush (13). The shaft is made with slots (23) and a hole (20) through which the conductor is fed. The plastic material is continuously fed to the slots via feed holes (22, 24).
