Abstract

The lock comprises a handle-operated catch engaging in a lock plate in the door frame on shutting. Automatic locking devices engage with the catch (3) to prevent its release on pulling it inwards to open the door, and other devices automatically release it when it comes nearly opposite the lock plate on shutting. The locing devices can incorporate a lug on the catch and a leaf spring anchored at one end and coming to rest in front of the lug in the windrawn position of the catch. On closing, a pin (9) thrusts the spring (6) aside and releases the catch lug. The spring can be arranged to be operated by the pin from both sides of the door, and can run parallel to the catch lengthwise axis.
