Abstract
THERE IS PROVIDED A METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A MAGNETIC DISK GLASS SUBSTRATE THAT, WHEN A PLURALITY OF MAGNETIC DISK GLASS SUBSTRATES ARE PRODUCED FROM A LAMINATE COMPOSED OF A PLURALITY OF LAMINATED GLASS SHEETS, MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN A CYCLE TIME BENEFIT OBTAINED BY PROCESSING USING LAMINATION, AND IMPROVE THE ROUNDNESS OF THE INNER HOLE OF THE MAGNETIC DISK GLASS SUBSTRATES TO A REQUIRED LEVEL. IN A LAMINATE PREPARATION STEP, A LAMINATE (5) INCLUDING A PLURALITY OF LAMINATED GLASS SHEETS IS PREPARED. IN A GRINDING STEP, THE LAMINATE (5) IS GROUND INTO A CYLINDRICAL SHAPE BY CAUSING A UNITARY CORE DRILL (20) TO ROTATE AROUND AN AXIS THEREOF AND CAUSING THE CORE DRILL (20) TO MOVE IN A LAMINATING DIRECTION OF THE LAMINATE (5), THE CORE DRILL INCLUDING A CYLINDRICAL OUTER GRINDSTONE HAVING A LARGE DIAMETER AND A CYLINDRICAL INNER GRINDSTONE HAVING A SMALL DIAMETER DISPOSED COAXIALLY. AT THIS TIME, THE GRIT SIZE OF THE INNER GRINDSTONE IS SET TO BE LARGER THAN THE GRIT SIZE OF THE OUTER GRINDSTONE. (FIG. 2)
