Abstract

Se da a conocer en la presente una composicion para capas de barrera para usarse en estructuras de paredes de gabinete aislante, particularmente aquellas usadas en aparatos tales como refrigerantes o máquinas lavaplatos. Las composiciones de la capa de barrera son resistentes a la accion de agentes hinchadores de espuma de poliuretano y tienen (i) una cantidad efectiva de una poliolefina modificada, que de mayor preferencia es un polietileno modificado con un compuesto que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de anhídrido maléico, ácido maléico, derivados de anhídrido maléico, derivados de ácido maléico, y mezcla de los mismos; y (ii) una cantidad efectiva de un caucho. Opcionalmente y de manera especialmente preferida, la composicion de la capa de barrera además puede contener (iii) una cantidad efectiva de una poliolefina que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de polietileno, polipropileno, polibutileno y copolímeros de los mismos. La invencion además proporciona compuestos termoformables que incorporan la capa de barrera anteriormente descrita así como estructuras de pared de gabinete aislantes que incorporan el compuesto termoformable. Finalmente, la invencion además proporciona un método para fabricar un compuesto termoformable que incorpora la capa de barrera de la invencion.
