Abstract
Se describen fibras de celulosa entrelazadas con ácido poliacrílico blanqueadas que exhiben contenido reducido de furfural; el contenido reducido de furfural va acompañado de una fuerte reducción del mal olor asociado con las fibras entrelazadas; los métodos de reducción del furfural incluyen el tratamiento con peróxido de hidrógeno en ausencia de agentes de blanqueo alcalinos u otros agentes de blanqueo, subsiguiente a la curación de las fibras de celulosa entrelazadas con ácido poliacrílico; algunas modalidades de las fibras de celulosa entrelazadas con ácido poliacrílico tratadas tienen un contenido de furfural menor de 1.3 ppm; en algunas modalidades, la reducción del contenido de furfural de las fibras entrelazadas tratadas en comparación con las fibras entrelazadas no tratadas es de por lo menos 55%; en algunas modalidades, el contenido de furfural disminuye con el envejecimiento de las fibras entrelazadas Tratadas.
