Abstract

Un procedimiento incluye: (a) proporcionar un polvo de éter de celulosa inicial que comprende 0.5 a 10 por ciento en peso de agua basado en el peso total del polvo de éter de celulosa; (b) calentar el polvo de éter de celulosa inicial a una temperatura en un intervalo de 30 a 130 grados Celsius; (c) antes, durante y/o después de calentar en la etapa (b), añadir una base sólida al polvo de éter de celulosa y mezclar con el polvo de éter de celulosa inicial para formar una mezcla de éter/base de celulosa; (d) añadir ácido volátil a la mezcla de éter de celulosa/base y mezclar; y (e) permitir que el ácido volátil hidrolice el éter de celulosa inicial para formar un éter de celulosa final que tenga una viscosidad menor que el éter de celulosa inicial.
