La presente invención se refiere a una composición que comprende al menos un oxido mixto basado en cerio y circonio que comprende circonio, cerio, lantano y opcionalmente al menos una tierra rara distinta del cerio y el lantano; presentando dicho oxido mixto una elevada resistencia térmica y capaz, en particular, de mantener una gran área superficial especifica incluso en uso en un entorno a temperatura elevada. La invención también se refiere a un proceso para la síntesis de dichas composiciones.
