Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a plantas transgénicas que expresan proteínas y péptidos antifúngicos de MtDef5 que exhiben altos niveles de resistencia a los hongos susceptibles. Tales plantas transgénica contienen una construcción de ADN recombinante que comprende una secuencia de péptido de señal natural o heteróloga, enlazada operablemente a una secuencia de ácido nucleico que codifica éstas moléculas. También se proporciona métodos para producir tales plantas, métodos para proteger a las plantas contra infecciones y daño fúngico susceptible, así como composiciones que se pueden aplicar a los lugares de las plantas, que comprenden microorganismos que expresan estas moléculas, o estas moléculas mismas, así como composiciones farmacéuticas que contienen estas moléculas. También están incluidos por la invención el uso humano y veterinario de las proteínas antifúngicas de MtDef5 y péptidos para tratar las infecciones susceptibles.
