Abstract
Materiales de hidro-carbonáceo pesado tales como el bitumen se mejoran en agua supercrítica en un sistema de reactor de flujo continuo. La presente invención proporciona una disposición de reactor y un método para convertir bitumen y otros materiales altamente viscosos que contienen hidrocarburos en líquidos bombeables para permitir un procesamiento adicional a dichos materiales mientras se evita la producción de carbón. El proceso puede llevarse a cabo en un reactor subterráneo basado en tecnología de pozos de petróleo. El diseño y método del reactor facilita la transferencia de masa para disolver el bitumen en agua caliente y descompone los hidrocarburos pesados mediante el control de la temperatura y la presión en las zonas dentro de la corriente que fluye. El reactor puede incluir un calentador eléctrico integrado.
