Abstract
La presente invención se relaciona al gen RDR1 modificado capaz de conferir resistencia a virus a una planta y/o incrementar resistencia a virus en una planta, la modificación que resulta en expresión incrementada del gen RDR1 y en donde la modificación es seleccionada de una modificación que incrementa el nivel de ARNm del gen RDR1; una modificación que incrementa el nivel de la proteína RDR1, como se compara con un gen RDR1 del tipo silvestre no modificado. La modificación puede comprender una modificación dirección 5´ de la secuencia de codificación del gen RDR1, como una modificación de un elemento regulatorio, preferentemente de un elemento regulatorio que actúa cis. El elemento regulatorio modificado es por ejemplo seleccionado de un sitio de enlace de factor de transcripción para un represor transcripcional, la modificación la cual lleva a reducción o ausencia de represión transcripcional; y/o un sitio de enlace de factor de transcripción para un activador transcripcional, la modificación la cual lleva a inducción o incremento de transcripción: y/o un sitio de enlace de mmicroARN, la modificación la cual lleva a reducción o ausencia de represión de genes; y/o una secuencia de ARN pequeña, la modificación la cual lleva a reducción o ausencia de represión de genes.
