En la presente se describen composiciones y métodos para determinar un riesgo de cáncer, como carcinoma de células escamosas de cabeza y cuello, en un sujeto usando una muestra de fluido corporal del sujeto y ensayos para marcadores como solCD44 y proteína total. También se describen métodos para tratar un sujeto en función de tal riesgo. También se describen métodos para determinar la eficacia de un tratamiento para el cáncer.
