Abstract
En la producción de acero de alto grado usando chatarras de acero que contienen cobre como la fuente de hierro, el cobre contenido en las chatarras puede ser removido de manera eficiente sin instalaciones grandes sometiendo las chatarras de acero que contienen cobre a fusión por carburización para formar un metal caliente para fabricar acero, removiendo el cobre contenido en el metal caliente mediante el uso de un flujo que contiene azufre, y removiendo entonces el azufre contenido en el metal caliente resultante. Se prefiere usar flujo a base de Na2S como el flujo que contiene azufre, dado que la remoción del cobre contenido en el metal caliente debe ser llevada a cabo en un equipo de refinación del tipo de agitación mecánica o por un método de inyección de flujo o que un metal caliente que tenga un contenido de azufre relativamente alto sea producido usando un horno de eje provisto con un lecho de material carbonáceo en él y entonces sometido al tratamiento de remoción del cobre anterior.
