Abstract
Un cateter de anestesia regional utilizado con una guia tal como por ejemplo una canula de aguja tiene una porcion distal integralmente conectada a la porcion principal del cateter a traves de una porcion de empalme que tiene un perfil transversal diferente de la porciones distal y principal, para asi predisponer la porcion distal del cateter para moverse en una direccion dada cuando la porcion distal no esta guiada o limitada por una canula de aguja. El perfil transversal de la porcion de empalme se puede configurar en una forma particular, o puede construirse para tener una flexibilidad que predispone la porcion distal a flexionarse, curvearse o moverse hacia una direccion dada. Una vez que la direccion predispuesta a la cual el extremo distal del cateter apunta es conocida, un medico puede facilmente orientar el cateter con relacion a la canula de aguja por lo que una vez que el extremo distal del cateter sale de la punta distal de la canula de aguja, con la canula ya colocada en una posicion proxima a la ubicacion deseada a la cual el extremo distal del cateter se va a colocar, el medico puede facilmente colocar el extremo distal del cateter en la ubicacion deseada dentro del paciente. En lugar de solamente una porcion de empalme, un numero de porciones de un cateter se pueden configurar para flexionarse en una direccion predeterminada. Ademas, un cateter puede configurarse para tener un perfil transversal o una flexibilidad predefinida a lo largo de su longitud completa que origina que el cateter se flexiona, curve o mueva en una direccion predeterminada.
