Launching My Collection

Self portrait with collection.

February 20th was the social media launch for my collection. Since I had already done some launching, and Red Focks of Alien Buddha Press had also sent a couple of mentions out, this was not earth shattering, but it did provide another opportunity for those who are curious about the book to peek inside because on the Alien Buddha Press blog, Editor Focks published a few poems from the volume. Head on over, and let me know what you think.

In related news, after the launch, I felt anxious about trying to plan readings and generally promote The Great Garbage Patch. But yesterday I visited with an old friend who was encouraging about my “book tour” plan (still only a vague dream), so now I am again looking forward to making arrangements–as soon as I can mail off copies to my wonderful blurbers. This is harder than you’d think because my husband and I are sharing one car while mine waits endlessly (since December and counting) for a part without which it might break down at any moment.

(For those of you in the civilized world, public transportation is barely a thing in the U.S., except in the largest cities. Biking is dangerous, and most people cannot easily get to necessary places, like the grocery store or the post office, by walking. Walking where we live is viewed with such suspicion that three out of four members of my family have been stopped by police while walking. My son, then middle-school age, was suspected of planning a school shooting for walking across the street from a school with a stuffed platypus under his shirt. Since I was walking with him, I too was a suspect, especially after I laughed at the officer. Later, my husband was stopped on suspicion of burglary, which is absurd, as the visual evidence here suggests. We were all interrogated on the spot and then allowed to go.)

Anyway, at some point, there will be updates regarding promotional events, and I hope to meet some interesting people. Maybe you!

Duality Is Ready to Order

I was happy to learn from Editor Dale Wisely today that Duality, the new literary magazine from the prolific Ambidextrous Bloodhound Press, is ready to order. It has my poem, “Sleep” (discussed here), in it, along with other good poetry (I was able to read around a little in the proofs). So hit the link on the title, above, and get yourself a copy!

Reading From The Great Garbage Patch Is Up

Here is a reading from my collection, The Great Garbage Patch.

Please enjoy this preview of my collection, The Great Garbage Patch. As always, gratitude goes to Alien Buddha Press, who made it all possible.

If you think poetry is boring or don’t really like this sort of thing, start at 7:45, which is the fun part. Content warning: This video contains reflections on the Undead Yam’s presidency and other fascist perpetrations.

Thanks for showing up and being part of the adventure.

Video of Me Reading 4’33” Is Up, and Door Is A Jar News

Here’s a photo and video I made to help promote Contemporary Poems–2022 (also available in an e edition here) for Fresh Words. Enjoy 🙂

In Other News . . .

Editor Maxwell Bauman, of Door Is A Jar, notified contributors of all the Barnes & Noble stores stocking the current issue (Winter, 2022), which I am in. It’s a lot! If you want to know where you can buy it, leave a note in the comments, and I’ll look it up on the spreadsheet he sent to find a store as near you as possible.

That’s it for now. More on the new poetry collection soon.

Upcoming Book Launch!

If you have been following along here closely, you have already read many of the poems in my forthcoming collection, The Great Garbage Patch. Or at least, you have read about them. They are all resistance-themed responses to the worldwide rise of fascism, from my vantage point here in the Deep South. A good number, and, in my opinion, some of the best, have not been published in any other venue, however, and the shape of the collection as a whole, the resonance the poems have with one another, adds a further new dimension to the work.

I am not sure exactly when copies will be available, but soon, and I will keep you updated. In the meantime, I want to express my appreciation for Red Focks, of Alien Buddha Press, for choosing to publish the book and putting all the work in to make that happen. He informs me there will be a social media launch for the collection on February 20th, which I will, of course, share here. I also want to thank Andrew Taylor–who interviewed me for my feature in erbacce–and Dane Ince–whom I know from Time to Arrive open mic, which he runs–for the amazing blurbs they wrote for the back cover of Garbage Patch. You can read these in the photo, above, if you squint hard.

And thanks to everyone else who has supported my writing. This includes you if you are reading this.

Cheers.
