At last! I am only 5 hours in, but I really liked what I saw. But combat didn’t agree with me, so I started looking for mods and then I find out a turn based mode is in development! So I decide to put my run on pause.

I will probably start a whole new run.

I strongly prefer turn based for isometric CRPGs. There is always third person for real time combat in RPGs.

I would even argue turn based plays to the strengths of the isometric perspective.

RTwP does have the benefit of speed when it comes to trash fights. Anything more challenging like a boss fight or tough encounter and I prefer turn-based, but on the flipside they make trash encounters drag on forever whereas RTwP you can just blow past them.

The turn based mode in Pillars 2 was so good that if you prefer turn-based to RtwP (which I think is most of us), I’d recommend playing Pillars 1 this way, even though it wasn’t initially designed for it. I’m not in the mood for a replay of Pillars 1 right now, but if I was, that’s what I’d be doing.
