I know there are are Arab Muslims living in the Zionist Entity, and there used to be some anti-settlememt sentiment in the 1970s among the more hippy oriented. But it seems like every single time I see an Israeli speaking online it’s the most unhinged racist garbage I’ve ever seen. Are they seriously this pro-genocide or are they simply good at hiding their detractors?
I’m asking this because I know there have to be people living in the Zionist Entity by circumstance rather than choice. Like young people or migrants who needed work or people who are simply too poor to leave, even if they would like to leave based on their political opposition.
Like I’m thinking of people who ended up in jail because they would refuse service in the IDF. How widespread is that sort of sentiment and why am I not seeing nor hearing anything about it, yet I’m seeing plenty of fanatic rabid fascism from Israelis?
I seem to recall seeing polls where like 4% or something of Israelis polled gave a good (read: anti-genocide) opinion. It’s pretty bad.
There is the Mesarvot conscientious objector movement. It is Israeli teens who refuse to serve in the IDF. Some of them have been jailed for refusing. I think that their membership is small.
Not enough Israelis disagree with killing everyone in Gaza to constitute a movement
There seems to be some small scale demos of like 10-50 people during big hostage protests, but nothing large. If going by polling 20% of jewish pisraelis are like we might have gone too far, but then you have to divide it by “actually doing stuff” coefficient of 100, and that would be like 10-20k people over whole place
One would imagine also anglo speaking pisraelis are extra rabid, cause they just got their first home after leaving new york or whatever, so that reduces any exposure of genocide-skeptic population to anglo world even further.
There is also a small factor, but might be disproportionally large on that scale of “the actually doing stuff”, that some of intelligentsia just fucked off (of initial wave of like 500k fucking off), so maybe like 50k people left out of conviction (i’ve met two academics of “i haven’t realized they really believe this shit” style in europe, sold homes and everything)
Yigal Bronner and David Shulman are Sanskrit scholars at the University of Jerusalem; they’ve been anti-settler and have spoken out against ethnic cleansing in the West Bank for years. I just googled them and although I can’t find very much from recent years, there is a protest from this year where the chants included “Don’t say we didn’t know; genocide is in our name” (Instagram, but it let me see it without logging in). Maybe if we search in Hebrew we can find more from that group.
More from Shulman, “a longtime activist with Ta’ayush, the Arab-Jewish Partnership, in the occupied Palestinian Territories.”
Seems to be non-violence; I’ve yet to read about Israelis actually taking up arms against the genocide.
IIRC some younger Israelis burned their draft. I have nothing but empathy and “I know that feel bro” for every leftist in cringereal.
I have heard of B’tselem
