A tree may explode when stresses in its trunk increase due to extreme cold, heat, or lightning, causing it to split suddenly.

    You ain’t seen nothin until you see a tree explode from it being too cold too quick.

    You can hear it in the backwoods with occasional loud cracks. Then you get a tree just disappear into a could and a loud “pow” and you see that a tree just spontaneously blew itself up.
