I⌠donât dig this. I get it, and I appreciate it might ring bells for people whoâve already trodden a similar path, but a person who identifies as a man identifies as a man, not a âmanâ. Presuming and predicting other peoplesâ gender epiphanies or dysphoria feels quite close to misgendering.
Maybe Iâm being over-sensitive?
Itâs also a post in a trans community, so it probably speaks to a lot of peopleâs experiences. I didnât feel like itâs rude, especially after thinking about it recontextualized from a political context. Like, what if someone made a meme about seeing leftist memes but they were really a âconservativeâ and that was posted in a leftist circle. It might just be me, but it doesnât seem rude either way because that would speak to me as someone in a circle like that.
I respect everything youâve written, but the context of the screenshot is seeing someone comment in a general forum, who implicitly identities as cis-het, and publicly weighing the odds that theyâre a trans person who hasnât yet come to that realization. It feels presumptive in a way that doesnât sit right with me, though Iâm not sure I can verbalize it better.
The best parallel I can draw is assuming that a stereotypically camp guy or that a girl whoâs a âtomboyâ are gay. Yeah, the odds are weighted towards it somewhat, but extrapolating and going âoh ho ho, I know how this ends upâ really feels disrespectful and assumptive in a way that feels parallel to misgendering.
Again, itâs possible Iâm reacting too strongly.
It is, and thatâs why we have the egg prime directive here.
Yeah, I questioned posting it in the first place because of the quotes, but I figured it was fine, since this is a sub for trans folks, who I figured would recognize the implication that it is in fact a trans woman whose egg is about to crack
Youâre not being oversensitive this post very much borders on Egg Prime directive violation.
A simpler time :(
I donât get the joke, is the person in the headline a transgender individual but they havenât connected the dots on that yet?
that is the premise of every post in this community, yes.
Ah, okay! Thank you. Apologies for my ignorance, Iâm new in town.
That is whatâs being implied, yes
Actual answer: because femboys and mtfs have a lot of overlap in our fashion and make-up tips.
Hi, presuming other peopleâs genders isnât appreciated here, and violates the Egg prime directive. In addition this whole implication that someone must be trans by associating with other trans people is really gross and toxic to GNC people and allies, and is also not appreciated here.
Please read the pinned post and familiarize yourself with the Egg prime Directive before posting again. The next incident will be a perma.
