  • Would be much more terrifying if the aliens actually acted like those grey aliens from the stories.

The version of aliens I found most terrifying are those that are actually far too human. Or, they are at least willing to treat us the way we’ve treated other creatures and other humans at times.

The most terrifying aliens are those that simply, at a fundamental level, do not recognize us as people. Whatever their definition of personhood is, we’re not part of it. Our pain means nothing. Our destruction means nothing. Our suffering means nothing. They’ll perform medical experiments on or disect someone alive without anesthesia, simply because they consider us no more worthy of personhood than we would consider rocks and trees worthy of it. To them, we are only collections of atoms, and we have zero moral value or agency.

Imagine being at the mercy of a being that has access to God like technology, but simply does not believe you have any moral value. Imagine a being that would happily and calmly flay you alive and afterwards honestly believe that they have done nothing wrong.

To me, that is the scariest kind of alien. One that treats humans exactly how we often treat other creatures.

  • Even most “allies” view their support more as humoring or an act of common decency than any actual endorsement of trans identities. Many folks don’t actually view you as your gender. They just either respect you enough to call you the right pronouns, or they just consider it common decency.

But when a trans person does something horrible, something truly unforgivable? Suddenly that person isn’t worthy of respect anymore, so there’s no point in humoring their identity. If you actually believe trans identities are “valid,” then you won’t misgender someone, even if they’re a childremoved serial killer. Cisgender women don’t get called men and thrown in men’s prisons if they commit acts of brutal violence. Their gender isn’t invalidated, because their identity is not conditional. Most “allies” view respect for trans identities as conditional. For some, this means that true monsters are worthy of misgendering. For others, it means any time a trans person says something mean to them they’re worthy of misgendering.

  • Nah. See what we need to do is to harness racism for world peace! Just hear me out!

OK here’s what we do. We invent, from whole cloth, an entirely new racial phenotype. Make it one that still is clearly human, but has features that no actual living human being could ever be mistaken for. We create this imaginary racial phenotype. Then we scapegoat THEM for all the world’s problems! We create AI videos showing people of this imaginary group committing crimes. We create botnets to slander the group and spread false statistics about their high levels of criminality. We create and spread elaborate conspiracy theories pinning countless historical crimes on their backs. We create a whole backstory and imaginary history from them. Their homeland will be some island continent in the South Pacific that doesn’t actually exist. But the headlines will still report on waves of boat people of this imaginary group invading the shorelines of nations the world over.

And we get everyone in on this. People of every race and nationality can vilify this group. All of humanity will be unified in our absolute revulsion for this completely imaginary racial group. If we can’t solve racism, we’ll just direct all the racism against a group that doesn’t actually exist! We’ll solve racism…with racism!
