Ikigai 04:19
I was beside myself All alone outside myself Trying to find myself Not caught up in the chaos, I align myself Abomination, I see through the distortion My frequency is tapped into the source when Got gratitude for attracting these blessings The journey is the real gift, people stop stressing We’re only gonna die. Look up at the sky and scream “Why oh why?” We’re only gonna die. Look up at the sky and scream “Why oh why?” We’re only gonna die. Look up at the sky and scream “Why oh why?” We’re only gonna die. Look up at the sky and scream “Why oh why?” Survival comes with some guilt and shame, but I know It’ll fade as time goes by The hurt comes and goes, but I know you know That this ain’t my first time The days are long, the nights are even longer Won’t stop the pain if I get high Heard in the end that this will make me stronger But I couldn’t say goodbye My friends gone ghost since they departed Alarming rates in my 20s it started Some made careers out that gangsta shit They caught some hot ones, at they wakes I wept More often than not these drugs gonna win, But that’s a story. I hope you never begin. Others took control of their own downfall And killed themselves because they sick of it all When my time come When my time come When my time come When my time come When my time come When my time come (Y’all could come) When my time come When my time come When my time come When my time come When my time come When my time come (Y’all could come) Stood up to life, I ain’t the only one That chose to stay and fight when most of them will surely run Observe the world from my throne Live half my life and I still can’t find home Ain’t got no kids, no queen to rule beside me My songs, my seeds, they’ll forever be my legacy The melodies, my memories that define me I beat the odds, killed the past, there’s no rewinding So rest in peace to those pieces of me Wealth success on its way, I can feel it coming There’s something in the air tonight From underground I emerge full of love and light Got out my mind now, I’m out of they sights Head down keep working, bring my art to new heights Still ask for favours ‘cause I used to be nice Nothings for free, everything’s got a price It’s the human condition Transition to the next world through lessons that’s wicked Don’t throw away your existence Cherish ever moment - hours, minutes and seconds So ’til I see all I’m suposed to see Do all I’m here to do Be all I had to be I have no fear of death And live to the fullest to my very last breath

about

“Ikigai” is a Japanese word meaning to live a life with purpose, and it is also the title of the first single off Post Cards, the new EP from Nickel City MC Mickey O’Brien. Mickey discusses the trials and tribulations he and the people closest to him have suffered and how through it all he discovered his own purpose: to make music and tell his story. Produced by Fresh Kils, the beat is a symphony of constantly evolving boom bap, assisted by Zachary Clement on keys, Petr Balaz on guitar, and closing cuts by Uncle Fester, blending flawlessly with Mickey’s uplifting lyricism that inspires the listeners to live their life to the fullest and help change the world. Kilganon takes the song in a different direction with his breezy EDM remix as a bonus to the single.
