- Untitled January 17, 2026 10:15 pmAlso: you really can't get non-smart tvs anywhere anymore. Even the most basic unit had some setup way too complicated for a 89 year old lady who just wants to keep the news running all day.
- Untitled January 17, 2026 10:13 pmHad the closest thing to a date my wife and I had in a long time today, as we went shopping and helping her gran set up a new TV. And all without the kids.Of course then I managed to drop her old TV on my foot and Jesus Christ that thing must have had lead bars inside. Never encountered a TV quite that heavy before.
- Untitled January 16, 2026 10:36 pmContent warning:Muppet goreSaw a woman in a blue shaggy jacket on the bus today. First thought was: wow, I guess cookie monsters aren't protected. It would be rude to share pics of that on the web though, so here instead is a related classic of #cosplay
- Untitled January 16, 2026 11:23 amAnd in other examples of "kyonshi should not be let put of the door before his first pot of coffee" I forgot the keys at home (meaning I locked myself out) and went to the wrong clinic for my appointment. Maaaaaan.
- Untitled January 16, 2026 8:07 amI might have appendicitis and will go to the doctor later.I told my 6yo I might be in hospital for 5-6 days.Him: "so we can't play computer games for that long?"Priorities.
- Untitled January 15, 2026 8:14 amCase in point: my wife's company has issues getting service for their computers from their IT company, because they got provided the machines, but their IT provider didn't invoice them or put the machines into their asset management system.
- Untitled January 15, 2026 8:12 amThe more I learn about how different companies (don't) work the more I question how the economy even works in the first place. It's all cardboard and duct tape.
- Untitled January 13, 2026 10:17 pmor that Wienerschnitzel brand that didn't serve actual wiener schnitzels but hot dogs instead
- Untitled January 13, 2026 10:16 pmI assume there's some American association with Bavaria that i as a native might never get. Like that Christmas gherkin nonsense or eating schnitzel with noodles.
- Untitled January 13, 2026 10:15 pmmy wife needed some help with the NYT #crossword puzzle, with a topic I, as a native of Bavaria, should be able to help with. the hint was: "some Bavarian cries"me: what. solution: ACHSme. whut?!
- Untitled January 13, 2026 1:43 pmcasually spun up a #MUD on the little open system we have right now. If anyone's interested in what is basically a stock tbamud/circlemud/dikumud, it's available on grenzland.club port 4000
- Untitled January 13, 2026 12:51 amSpent way too much time troubleshooting a problem that turned out to be a missing underscore in a file name.Feeling dumb.
- Untitled January 12, 2026 3:48 pmWorking on that tilde system I mentioned yesterday, which by now has multiple users and is now connected to our #IRC network
- Untitled January 12, 2026 1:47 pmMy kid watching some youtubers before: hey dad, you know why these guys can't hit anything? They're using MISS-iles.Prime #dadjoke material.
- Untitled January 11, 2026 4:37 pmJust sitting in the bathtub casually discussing making a #ttrpg #tilde server (over #irc no less)I would say we truly live in the future if I also had coffee brought to me automatically.
- Untitled January 11, 2026 3:43 pmThe sad thing is that I used to know that because I briefly used to work as a server technician 10+ years ago, but this is all stuff that went into the mental waste paper basket after I managed to move out of that position. That was one of those teams I really didn't care for.
- Untitled January 11, 2026 3:40 pmI also learned more about SAS connectors today. For one that there's different standards and unlike e.g. SATA they don't just interconnect. This would have been nice to know before I got myself two devices with different standards. Not that the actual interface standard in my tape drive was mentioned anywhere in the manual.Sigh. You live and you learn.
- Untitled January 11, 2026 3:36 pmGah. My experiments in homelabbing just caused me to lose all my data on my home server's storage drive.Or rather: the data likely still is there, but the drive and my system aren't on speaking terms anymore.
- Untitled January 11, 2026 9:34 amI've been driving this car for over half a decade and today I noticed for the first time it has a sensor for slippery road conditions.
- Untitled January 9, 2026 12:44 pmThe post office here I Poland decided to reduce staff, so everything is slower now. Instead of delivering a signed letter they just delivered the notice to pick it up at the office, and I just waited for nearly an hour in line to get it. I have the feeling the post office should be a bit better about this stuff.
