This case-control study examines the role of the upper airway microbiota in community-acquired pneumonia among non-hospitalized adults. We analyzed nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal samples from 107 pneumonia patients and 211 matched controls in a rural Dutch cohort using 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

This project investigates how livestock-related air pollution affects the nasopharyngeal microbiota in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing of nasopharyngeal swabs from 186 non-smoking participants in a rural Dutch cohort (including COPD patients and controls), and 116 national controls
