I don’t know exactly how to explain it, but there’s something offensive about pushing a stroller. However, my Irish grandpa, who was very much a tough working man (he was a teamster and foreman at the local brewery — his wife never wore pants or even drove a car), used to push me around on a stroller when I was very small. How would women feel if they were asked to change tires or jack up a car? How about split wood or hammer nails? Many may say “I can do that,” but the truth is that the vast majority of women would look ridiculous trying to do these things. There’s even a good chance they’d hurt themselves.

Probably one of the biggest problems in society now is that our economy and technology have evolved to the point where these man jobs simply aren’t as valuable or necessary as they used to be, but child care, due to the immense amount of time involved in raising children, remains a very important job; unfortunately it simply doesn’t pay. So men are increasingly useless, and you have guys getting shoved into the unnatural role of raising small children, whereas a father’s equal involvement with children should start around school age, when the kids are capable of doing a lot more for themselves and need the discipline and instruction that best comes from a masculine figure.

Unfortunately, young men simply don’t have all that much to offer, so the deal they get stuck with is often pretty lousy. In a number of major cities, young men are already out-earned by young women. This obviously changes power dynamics. This is why you see these guys with papooses.

This is not the first time this has happened, and it always ends in social disaster. What do young men do when they find themselves unneeded and pushed around by society? In most cases they eventually start banding together and taking things. I think we’ll see a lot more rejection of society’s mores by young men pretty soon. The bitchier and more imperious women get, the faster the seeds of insurrection will take root.

Serious question here. I’m new and I’m not sure I understand all of this.

What does it matter if she’s showing off? Isn’t everybody showing something off every day? Why worry about what other people choose to show off? I don’t understand why it matters.

Because the women in the picture are showing off things that other people have no control over. It'd be like them bragging that their boyfriend is white, since they're perceived to be the best (which also happen unfortunately). It's essentially socially accepted discrimination. A stark contrast to the status quo, where most people in life believe / say that people, especially women, care the most about other's good character rather than pure attractiveness based off of things that are not easily changed (i.e. bone structure, height, race). This is in stark contrast to women who, unless they are extremely disfigured from an unfortunate event or birth, have many options to improve their perceived physical attractiveness through means of fashion and makeup. Of course men do have the option to spend a lot of time to improve their muscles as well (which every man should in 2019 to have a higher chance, especially if they lack conventional attractive features if they still have any hope of finding a woman).

Is that really what’s happening there? It looks to me like a guy was worried that the height discrepancy would be off-putting, and she was merely saying that she’s with a much taller guy and it’s fine. Then she said that others do find it to be weird, but that she likes it.

How is it showing off by answering a question about a situation in which you have experience? When people ask questions in the Legal Advice subreddit, are the lawyers showing off by answering?

It'd be innocent in of itself, but people here are mostly just posting more validation for existing realities. If you look around you, you'll notice that people casually slipping in the height of their spouse (almost always over 6') into situations where it's not completely necessary. There's almost no situation in which the reverse happens. It's a sort of humble bragging that is apparent everywhere, but most men don't realize it happens so often until they're called into attention to pay attention to it. The post isn't to show off how much discrimination there is in the world, but to highlight that social signaling that occurs in random situations. Especially note how the one girl states that she finds the attention from the height difference awesome. A fair equivalent wouldn't be lawyers showing off by answering, but something like someone on a financial subreddit asking if it'd be good idea to diversify their 5 million dollars, and people with 4, 5, and 10 million all said how awesome it was to do that. It's not the answers themselves. It's the power they're signifying by responding in a way that also diverts attention to themselves.

For at least a decade now we’ve been seeing educators disingenuously “wondering” what’s going on with boys. I don’t believe teachers are confused in the least — they know exactly what’s going on. I’m certain of this because I have a fair number of educators in the family, and they know just what the “problem” is: boys are, in general, more difficult to teach.

What this “boys crisis” really comes down to is a public schools crisis. Public schools may be a necessity, but they have some pretty severe flaws. As a socialized system, they do not reward teachers for being harder workers or even result-oriented. Teachers in my local public school district are in open rebellion against tests that would hold them accountable for their students performance.

What public school teachers prefer is an easy day with obedient, compliant students. Unfortunately for boys, they don’t typically fit into the obedient and compliant category. So, rather than try harder, the teacher simply marks them down and leaves it up to the boys or their parents to deal with it (parents, many of whom are single mothers, definitely share some of the responsibility).

In private schools it’s a different story. Sons of the wealthy have higher academic achievement than their female counterparts. This is because teachers at private schools are informed in no uncertain terms that students’ performance in their classes is directly relevant to their continued employment. Miraculously, rich people’s sons are better educated and perform better every step of the way than their daughters.

The problem isn’t that boys are poor students. It’s that they require more effort. However, the results speak for themselves. Despite the higher grades and academic achievement of girls in our society, boys still lead the way in productivity, innovation and achievement in every other measure.

So all this hand-wringing about boys’ performance is misplaced, and I think the rest of us are beginning to figure it out. It isn’t really that the boys are performing poorly; it’s the schools that are lousy, and grades reflect little more than how teachers “feel” about their students.

You see, women are into musicians either because they are physically attractive, or because they are rich and famous. Academic achievements. My Dad has a PhD, so my mom loves to say that this was why she was so attracted to him. But really, what is there about his PhD - which is in the science field - that affects her in any way that isn't financial? My mom majored in linguistics and has no scientific inclination. She has discussed the technical parts of my dad's work with him about one time back in 1982, which was all it took for her to go, "uhhhh, OK, now I know not to bring that up again."

When the guy talks over her head, she thinks to herself, "I love it when he talks all smart and stuff. xD." She doesn't understand it, so this means it's intelligent, and she can brag to her friends about how her possibly pseudo-intellectual SO is sooooooo smart.

TALENT IN GENERAL: When I was a kid, I used to fantasize about "impressing" girls. What naive heterosexual boy doesn't?

The problem is, they're not impressed. They simply don't care. You're a great athlete? A great musician? A great painter? A great writer?

What interests her is in how much money you'll attain from this. She'll want to hitch her ride to a guy who is going places.

If she spots a young LeBron James in the gym, she might get excited about what the future could be like if she were with him and he became an NBA star. The talent itself being something she's attracted to? HA!

Even Roger Federer's wife, who was a fucking tennis player herself, frequently looks bored during his matches.

"Oh, he hit a winner from between his legs? Let's just finish this match, I want to go back to the hotel."

KINDNESS: They say it themselves. "Women are not objects you put kindness tokens into and get sex out of."

Oxfam sex scandal is not an isolated case
Oxfam is not the only charitable organization fighting to maintain its credibility after a sex scandal. Crisis relief workers abusing their power isn't a new phenomenon.

One would expect that humanitarian workers take care of the people urgently in need of assistance during and following a crisis. But the image of the altruistic aid worker is too often a myth because anyone who is in the position to help others is the one wielding the power - and some take advantage of it.

Staff members of Britain's non-governmental organization Oxfam allegedly organized orgies with prostitutes in the organization's villa after the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010. But the scandal doesn't stop there. Sex parties were reportedly also held during relief missions in Chad in 2006. Oxfam staff members apparently even raped women in South Sudan.

It is not the first sex scandal that has shaken the world of international aid, according to Burkhard Wilke, managing director of the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI).

"Employees or partners of aid organizations in aid regions have repeatedly made themselves complicit in the sexual exploitation of the local population," he told DW.

The medical aid organizationMedicines [sic] sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) recently reported 24 cases of abuse or sexual harassment in the past year. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) admits that there have been three cases of sexual abuse during operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Brothel in the Balkans

Cases of aid worker misconduct reach back to the Yugoslavian wars in the 1990s. International aid workers were involved in the sexual exploitation of girls and women during the wars in the Balkans. UN blue helmet soldiers and humanitarian workers were all said to have visited prostitutes on a regular basis.

The German women's rights organization Medica Mondiale helped traumatized women in Bosnia during the Balkan conflict, and the Cologne-based NGO still helps girls and women in war and crisis regions.

Ara Stielau, Medica Mondiale's director of the international programs, said the aid worker scene regarded visits to prostitutes during missions as a "trivial offense and private pleasure." Stielau said she still remembers the words of a German aid organization's executive when he was confronted with the sexual misconduct of some of his employees. He apparently replied, "I can't watch what my men are doing between the sheets."

Inhibitions are lower

Economic hardship is among the reasons why women in crisis regions work as prostitutes. Women often suffer so much that they lose their inhibitions and are willing to accept food or money for sex, Stielau said. That is how local women in need of help can become dependent on male aid workers from abroad who ultimately have resources and the power to distribute relief supplies.

"Employees of an organization have money and thus the power to help one person and not another - and that creates temptation," Wilke added.

Most international aid organizations are aware of these dangers and have put in place special codes of conduct for all employees.

"However, the Oxfam case reveals that the necessary consequences are not always drawn when it comes to sexual misconduct," Wilke said.

A trust crisis

"Using the services of prostitutes may not necessarily be against national laws, but it violates all codes of conduct issued by relief organizations," Wilke said, adding that organizations risk losing their reputation if their employees are caught acting immorally.

That loss of trust can be a huge problem as credibility is key in the world of international charity. NGO aid organizations depend on donations — and on the trust of donors who want to know that their money is going to the people who need it.

For this reason, Wilke said misconduct should be reported "unsparingly" to the public. Transparency is the top priority. In Germany, Wilke's institute awards a seal of approval to organizations for ethical and transparent work. In the event of misconduct, NGOs may lose the seal of approval.
