Legion Imperialis: Basilisks

Time to get some more tiny tanks built and painted. Finally for the Solar Auxilia have their iconic artillery piece the Basilisk. The kit also makes the more mobile and short range Medusa.  I have an event upcoming on the 4th of May down at 7th City Collectables and the points have been upped to 2000 pts. So I am looking to add a solid back line of artillery with 12 Basilisks being added to the army. I got a fair bit of painting to do over the next few weeks. I will be show casing my list for the event in the next week.

Just prepping my next project. These are some Scout Trooper sculpts from Skull Forge Studios . Going to be some nice variants from the model from Atomic Mass Games. These were printed out by my good friends at 3D Kingdoms. They will be painted up in the standard white imperial scout trooper armour and deserty style bases.

After painting up so much small scale infantry for Legions I thought I would try a different scale and time period. I have always been drawn to Bolt Action as a game, as I like the idea of a nice small scale skirmish game that builds up nicely and played over a nice gaming table.

So I picked up the French Army Deal from Warlord Games

Which as you can see has around 35 Infantry men 3 weapons teams and a tank. Should be a nice quick painting project once have all the models assembled. Now just need the rain in Nottingham to stop so I can get the first unit undercoated.

Black Templars: Chaplin Grimaldus & Retinue Construction

At the start of the year I mentioned that I will be looking to start a Black Templars army. I remember painting Chaplin Grimaldus when he was very first released, and now that he has crossed the rubicon, I thought he would be the prime candidate to get my black armour technique sorted and to lead my force. Only got time today to get Grimaldus and his retinue assembled. Next up will be undercoating and getting the base layers on.

I have left the actual banner itself off to make it a bit easier to paint.

Star Wars Legion ATDP part 2

Finally with some clear weather and not on husband duties I have got round to base coating the ATDP.

Started with a black undercoat and then Mechanicus Grey over the top.

Will now start on lightening up the base coat before I can start weathering.

I am following Sorastros painting guides as I find them a very good starting point for a lot of my projects.

Star Wars: legion ATDP Project Part 1

Welcome to part 1 of my All Terrain Defense Pod project. This walker has long featured in the graphic novels, books and cartoon series, but as yet AMG have yet to bring it to the table top. So I hunted around the interweb to find some 3D files. Now I have no idea and to be honest no willingness to learn how to 3D print at the current time, but a good friend of mine owns a 3D print business. So I popped him the files and hay presto like green magic I took ownership of my first ATDP.

If you are looking to have anything 3D printed look up:

3D KINGDOMS

If its your first order you get 10% off

So here is the ATDP assembled and ready for priming

As you can see she's big

With a clone trooper for scale.

If the rain holds off this weekend I will get it primed and hopefully the first layers of paint.

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Commandos Unit 2 Update

Its been a while since I hit up some paints on the final unit of Rebel Commandos so this week I am aiming to get them completed. As you will see from the front row of troops I have 5 different alien races to work on.

Looking forward to using some different colour skin tones and a variant on the pallet. Next set of photos should be the unit complete meaning I can move onto Clan Wren and Sabrine.

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Commandos Additional Upgrades Stage 1

Work is progressing nicely on the next batch of 12 rebel commandos. Most of the base layers are now down, just some undershirts to do and then onto the cammo and washes. As you may have noticed there are some additional alien races to add some nice variants to the units. So are the following a Mon Calamari sniper, Ithorian gunners, Gran solider, Ishi Tib officer and a Chiss gunner. I am going to enjoy the paint work on these so that they really stand out on the battlefield.

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Commandoes Part 3

Not much progress tonight just the gloves and back packs, but with the weekend ahead of me looking to get some major progress on the models.

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Commandoes Part 2

Some more work completed on the Rebel Commandoes tonight, laid down paint on the guns, trousers, helmets, belts and pouches. Its been a long time since I have done such a large batch painting run and forgot how little seems to be done. But I think another couple of painting sessions and I will have them completed and I can reward myself with Sabine Wren.

Star Wars Legion: WIP Rebel Commandoes Part 1

This weekend I have started on the major block of my Ashoka Army with the Rebel Commandos. This are the models from the core set, I do have some other models to fill out the units and to offer some model variation. But the major work on the bases is complete and rest of the week will start blocking in the colours.

Star Wars Legion: Cad Bane Assembly

First up on my assembly bench for Star Wars Legion is the infamous Cad Bane from Clone Wars and more recently The Book of Boba Fett. The more recent waves of Star Wars Legion now come in hard plastic and with the characters a couple of poses. The first is in a gun slinger pose aiming one of his blasters. The second he is using a com link on his wrist.

I went with the classic gun slinger pose and the build is very clean and crisp with very few mould lines. Once assembled there are no gaps for filling. Looking forward to getting some paint on the model over the course of the weekend. I have included the sprue shot and shot of the other varients.

Horus Heresy: Leviathan Build

Following on from the weekends post of the Leviathan unboxing, I have spent the past couple of lunch times building up the kit.

I obviously went with the Eye of Horus groin guard and the chaos looking chest plate and rear head piece. I really like the extra height and width the shoulder guards give the model. As you can see I have left the arms separate to make it  easier for painting. The model can be magnetized if you are one of those gamers that have to all options available to them (i am not if I want different variant will just buy another one). My load out is claw and drill, I really like that you can pose the drill and the claws to give a nice variable to your model.

Just for scale guide is one of my Tactical Support Marines. Hes a big unit and def gonna be a magnet for enemy fire. Looking forward to painting this model.

Whats on your table?

Horus Heresy: Sons of Horus Tactical Squad WIP 2

I had hoped to get these almost finished over the weeked, but time ran away from me. But lunch time today I got the squad almost done. just need to add transfers and complete some detail pieces and the bases and the frist squad is complete.

Next on the build list is a 10 Man Tactical Suppoort Marines all armed with rotorcannons, just cos they look cool.

That will leave me with 20 marines left to build. Not sure which way I am going to go with these at the current time. But to get some inspiration I am going to watch the 2 Horus Heresy battle reports on Warhammer TV.

Whats on your painting table?

Horus Heresy: The First Steps

With my much needed holiday over, it was back to good ol'Blighty from Greece, my extra wait to open up my Heresy Age of Darkness box set was not wasted. I did plenty of research reading other blogs and watching the community creators You Tube videos. In my head I had thought I had decided what my first steps were going to be, that was until I started opening all my pre-orders. I must admit the sheer amount of plastic in the box set I found intimidating. Normally with a new starter set there are 2 sides, bish bash bosh and the forces are assembled and you are gaming. Now with Age of Darkness things are not quite so simple....

Thankfully Andy a good friend of mine has picked up a starter set and has decided on Blood Angels as his force, so this made my decision making a little more easier. Reading through the rulebook it is very clear that you need a good amount of line troops to be able to take and hold objectives.

As I already have a painted Tactical squad of 10 with a Rhino. I decided that my first unit would be another Tactical squad and the Praetor with the axe. This would at least give me a legal starting point to the army and give me a little more time to decide on the rest of my list.

So as you can see in the picture the first squad and praetor are built and ready for undercoating. I am aiming to have this squad completed this week.

What progress have you made with your box set? and have you yet decided on your army list?

Horus Heresy: Imperial Fists Legion Templar Brethren

Today's builds are 5 Imperial Fist Templar Brethren, as their armour is mainly black, thought would get it done as the same time as the Justaerin Terminators. Have to say I did not enjoy this build lots of sub section arms, so lots of pinning and gluing and drying. The swords also needed a bit of work in terms of straightening and some filling. However I think alongside Sigismund they will look great on the table. Check back on progress next week.

Horus Heresy: Sons of Horus Justaerin Terminators

With the Horus Heresy on the horizon thought it was time to have a look through my plastic and resin pile and work my way through some of my back log. I found a box of Justaerin Terminators and weapons pack. So thought start my Sons of Horus force with the 'Point of the Spear'. Once the temp drops today I will get the undercoat on and then start work on the armour. I am looking forward to the deep red shoulder pads depicted in the book and the FW webpage.

Watch Captain Halgrim

Been a dreary and foggy week up here in Nottingham, but at the end of the week I managed to get some Skeletons undercoated. For my test scheme I am using Watch Captain Halgrim from the Cursed City game.

Back in the days before Age of Sigmar I owned a Empire Army and the focal state was Ostermark, which wore Purple and Yellow uniforms. So this is my nod to my gaming history.

The yellow has been laid down and next up will be the purple. I am planning of bringing the whole down a few tones using oils for the first time. Aiming to have this finished for next week.

Tor Garadon

I had completely missed this model release by GW and in my quest to reignite my hobby passions, thought would start with 1 single model and see if it inspires a new army.

I am also going to be looking at new style of painting for me which has a really strong following online which is Grimdark.

The sculpt on this model is lovely a real sense of power in the pose and some great details to focus on. At the moment I have left the shoulder mounted gun off as I am not sure if I am I will use him as Tor Garadon or as a Captain for a new army.

Next undercoating and first coats
