Another week another blur of activity as I sit to write this with a pint of fizzy water with a dash of lime whilst my house is currently 24c and due to get to 28c today. Mini heatwave! I haven’t really taken and photos this week, so here’s a Trio in the garden!
I’m having quite a good week for Food! A visit to that temple of consumerism Costco wouldn’t be complete without eating a slice of pizza as big as my face. 🍕 😋
Tonight’s dinner, as my pescatarian wife is out with friends, was Vietnamese-style pork belly with rice and satayed bok choy salad. No recipe for this as I sort of freestyled and whacked about 3 different recipes together 🤣 came out well though!
As mentioned in my stuff this week as I’m on annual leave I’m doing the lions share of the family Cooking this week. Yesterday I made this BBC Goodfood Masala Chana Chaat by Chetna Makan.
This was delicious and we’ll absolutely be making it again. Easy and quick for a family weekday meal but full of different textures, great spices and just enough heat in the chutney with two green chillies blended into The herb mix. Veggie too!
I’m a fan of the Waitrose Dish podcast and love the quick fire questions bit that they ask guests on the show.
This is an example 👇
Seeing as my invite appears perpetually lost in the mail I’ve decided to instead take some of the questions they ask 1 and answer them here as a bit of fun, because why not! 🤷
Travel day 😢 Holiday over already! We’ve got a flight at 12:30 to make! So let’s get ready!
Bunnies were a frequent site in the garden
We’d done most of our packing the previous night, so all we had to do was give the property a good clean and tidy, double check we’d packed everything, have some breakfast and say our goodbyes 👋
🥖 My wife is making sourdough again and I’m here for it 😋
⌛Well it’s been a couple of weeks since my last update! Things have been busy but not in an “Interesting and fun stuff to write about way” just the daily machinations of work and home stuff keeping us busy. So I haven’t really been compelled to write much of anything last week.
🍊🍺 Oh my god, I think I might have found one of my favourite beers of all time. Vault City knocked it out of the park with their mini egg stout I mentioned previously (bought another one of those as well 😜)
This is absolutely delicious! An orange ice cream delight. 😋
I cooked Nigella’s Banana Bread recipe this week. I have never eaten or made banana bread before. it was her chocolate version, so there’s cocoa in the flour and chocolate chips as well as walnuts and the bananas themselves. Everyone loved it. Would make again.
🤖 I bought a Gundam Gunpla model kit 1. I had a “Oh… these instructions are difficult…and in Japanese…and also difficult…and also completely in Japanese… However. I am the GOAT at Ikea furniture building and after composing myself with a cup of coffee it actually wasn’t that difficult and was pretty fun! Not sure if I’d get any others as I don’t have the room, but I’m glad another bit of Japanese nerd culture is ticked off for me now and I have a li’ll robot buddy 😊🇯🇵
Why yes that is a AMX-011S ‘Zaku-III Custom’ thanks for asking 🕺
🦃🎄 Christmas is nearly here! At the hospital I work at the canteen does Christmas dinners every day in December, and as staff you get a discount. How could I resist!
If you wondered what an NHS Christmas Dinner looks like… Here you go 👍
We were joking that next year we should do some sort of charity challenge where we try and have one every day for as long as we can go. I think I might actually end up admitted to the hospital if I actually try that though! 😅
Hats off to the amazing canteen staff who make this happen. It must be such an operation to do this for a whole month for 100’s of people a day. 👏👏👏 Just one of the many parts clinical and non-clinical that makes the NHS so special.
Yes, it’ll soon now be Christmas before we know it. Planning and strategies have started. We now know what we’re doing as well. Christmas at ours and my wife’s parents coming over to ours. With my wife changing jobs, this’ll be the first Christmas in a few years where she hasn’t had to work Christmas Day or Boxing Day, so I’m quite looking forwards to that 😊
As part of my wife’s week long 1 birthday celebrations whilst we’re off together with the kids 2 during half term we had arranged to go the Russell-Coats house, a Victorian aged house and museum. Despite us living down here together for 13+ years we’d never actually got around to visiting this beautiful house, art gallery and museum all in one.
Hoteliers and art lovers, they gathered this collection of art not only from the UK, but from across the world 3.
Cincinnati chili is a dish that’s always interested me. It’s a chili that isn’t really a chili. A pasta dish that isn’t a pasta dish. It’s such an interesting odd mixture of stuff I’ve always wanted to cook it. With my pescatarian wife away this weekend and thinking of ideas on what to cook, I finallly thought “sure, why not?”
