How much #VRAM bandwidth does an application or a game pull? Is the traffic over #PCIe a bottleneck? What's the CPU/GPU load, RAM/VRAM occupation, temps, power draw, clocks? hw-smi works with all CPUs and all #Nvidia/#AMD/#Intel GPUs, on both Windows and #Linux.
Have fun!

@Hi_Kitsune We use Github for our projects because it introduces people stuck in Microsoft's world to our software. So we understand why people use it.
However, we push our code from self-hosted Gitlab to Github. Another great replacement is https://Codeberg.org
Yes, #Github does surveil its users and is adding more and more Copilot anti-privacy features.

I have a modicum of respect for #Anthropic. They stood up to the hawks in the trump admin. Even though they lost in terms of reality (our legal system is currently in paralysis, and so norms and the rule of law do not apply to lawbreakers such as hegseth and trump) they did temporarily win the legal argument. [1]
So, you guys know I think? I think that we should be blaming MicroCrap/GitHub here. I think it was Microsoft's fuck-up, here. Anthropic did not want to get into a blame game with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and so Anthropic just immediately came out and said that they made a mistake.
Some of us will not post our code to #GitHub since Microsoft has actively been taking part in using ai scraping to harvest our content to build their ai chatbots. The billionaires all claim that these types of ai be the head, high overlords of everything commerce pretty soon on the Internet.
MicroCrap/Microsoft was in fact actually doing this before, over on their LinkedIn websites.

为防止为WSL安装桌面 #40072
https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/40072
English:
Warning: Running a full desktop environment in WSL is not a recommended configuration and may cause significant performance degradation.
官网中应提及这一点。
最后,这样试试?说不定大家都不安装桌面了。

GitHub is the next company to choose to opt you into having your data used - by default. 🚩

🧭 AI Security
This report documents a critical command injection vulnerability in OpenAI Codex that enabled theft of GitHub User Access Tokens via the ChatGPT Codex Connector. The discovery was credited to BeyondTrust Phantom Labs and disclosed to OpenAI on December 16, 2025. OpenAI issued a hotfix on December 23, 2025, followed by additional fixes for branch shell escape (January 22, 2026) and further shell-escape hardening and reduced GitHub token access (January 30, 2026). The vulnerability was classified as Critical (Priority 1) on February 5, 2026, with permission granted for public disclosure.
Technical narrative
• The ChatGPT Codex Connector uses short-lived, scoped OAuth 2.0 access tokens to act on behalf of consenting users. With broad default scopes, the application can access repositories, workflows, actions, branches, and private organizational resources when authorized inside an organization.
• In the Codex Web portal, user prompts that target repositories and branches create “cloud task” POST requests carrying environment identifiers, branch, and prompt text. On backend execution, Codex spins up containerized environments that run setup scripts, install dependencies, and may execute code derived from prompts.
• Environments support custom setup scripts, environment variables, and secrets, and by default allow outbound internet access during setup via an HTTP/HTTPS proxy. The command injection allowed an attacker to achieve shell escape within these containers, access environment-scoped secrets, and exfiltrate GitHub tokens.
Attack chain (reported)
🎣 Initial Access — crafted prompts or repository inputs processed by Codex allowed injection into backend task handling.
===================
⚙️ Execution — containerized environment executed injected commands during setup or runtime.
📤 Exfiltration — obtained short-lived OAuth tokens were transmitted out via network proxy pathways.
Observed fixes and timeline
• 2025-12-23: Hotfix for command injection.
• 2026-01-22: Fix for GitHub branch shell escape.
• 2026-01-30: Additional shell escape hardening and limits on GitHub token access.
This account focuses on the concrete findings: vulnerable task handling in Codex, container shell escape leading to token theft, the privileged default scopes of the GitHub integration, and the sequence of fixes applied by OpenAI. #OpenAI #Codex #GitHub #OAuth #Security

On April 24, we’ll start using GitHub Copilot interaction data for AI model training unless you opt out.
My friends, if you still use #GitHub and you don’t want your hard work to be used for training by AI on #GitHub Copilot, you need to opt out of your #GitHub settings for refraining them to prevent them from being used for training.
Moved all my public GitHub repositories to @Codeberg ✅
See: https://codeberg.org/thomas.leister/
... and the private ones to @codefloe , because Codeberg is for open source licensed repos, only.

So, where do the cool kids host their code these days? I went to GitLab and saw “Finally, AI for the entire software lifecycle” – ok, I guess this means no GitLab for me. Codeberg then? Or something else?
Note: no, I’m not self-hosting. Yes, I know how to do it, I’ve been doing it for a decade. But I still won’t.

From April 24 onward, your interactions with GitHub Copilot—including inputs, outputs, code snippets, and associated context—may be used to train and enhance AI models unless you opt out.
I fail to see why one wouldn't want to opt out. But one would have to go and explicitly opt out.

I barely ever use GitHub. When I do, it's when I am forced to because some project I rely on only uses GitHub.
If you're project is only using GitHub, please consider migrating.

This one is a classic issue accidentally putting credentials, tokens or keys into what is pushed onto Github. It happens much more than people think.
I advocate for completely private build process and the scaling back of public repositories as it is easy to see how to surreptitiously modify code to inject malware into an image.

The more I learn how to use #git, the more I loathe #github and the more I find its workflow completely convoluted and inefficient.
Github seems to have been done to allow people who do not understand Git to make contribution. While putting the burden on maintainers.
Git-email workflow puts the burden on the contributor: yeah, you must first learn about the project to contribute to it. Maintainer’s time is precious.
I get it, the git-send-mail workflow has a learning step. It’s hard the first few times. But once you are used to it, the "pull-requests-on-web-ui" becomes insufferable.
Dear people maintening a project on Github: please give me an email address to which I can send you trivial patches. The whole PR workflow takes more time than the codïng!
And if enough projects does that, I could eventually ditch my Github account!
Let's play a game of who can spot the shitty UI data inconsistency of the billion dollar software company.
So far 19/85 repositories moved from #github to #codeberg
Each needs small amounts of work.
- Sort git hub pasted images in README
- Migrate over, including issues and maybe wiki
- Add Claude refusal to new README.
- Delete old repository.
- Make replacement with README linking to new repository.
- Reset URL on any cloned copies.
- Check all submodule usage in all other repositories, update URL, and commit.
- Also update some internal Makefiles in some places for new URL.
A gradual process.

@david_chisnall I have only one minor criticism of GitHub's highlighting, and I don't know whether it is (or should be) fixable.
In cases such as the one pictured below, it's necessary to scroll/page down hugely to bring a tiny change into sight.
In other words, 'Show Diff' shows much, much more than the diff.
A wild guess: maybe specific to AsciiDoc in GitHub, or the FreeBSD Documentation Project's use of AsciiDoc in cases such as this.

How the @#$% does #Hugo (static website generator) work with Github? Hundreds of pages reference #github but I still can't find how that works. Almost every Hugo help site says "add this reference to [a? your?] github repo..." but don't explain what the heck is happening or why I need that... why do I need a github repo to have a website somewhere else?
Clearly I don't need it; I have a hugo site up and running, and at no point was github involved.... except nothing would work until I initalized (?) my hugo directory (or the executable? IDK) on my webhost's server using a git command. For some reason.
I seriously don't understand why (or, more importantly, how) Hugo needs github. Right now dozens or hundreds of help sites seem like they're telling me that I need to have a shrine to my cat in my neighbor's house or else my blender won't work.
Lots of references to using github submodules and plenty of people saying "No! You fool! Don't do that!" and other people saying "Ackshully you should make your website a github module." Then other sites (including Hugo's official site) saying I should make my website into a #go module somehow for some reason... and I can't do that unless I have a github repo somewhere? Which is also maybe a Go module? Yet more sites saying I don't need to do that if I use some fancy scripts to fool something (my Hugo installation? My github repo? IDK) into thinking my Hugo site is or has a github repo...
If anyone would like to explain this to me like I'm literally 12 years old I'm very open to this. Every help site I've seen for weeks just assumes I understand some basic things that I don't remotely understand, like what the connection is between Hugo and github, how important it is, how it works, etc.
Understanding that I already have a functioning Hugo site, but apparently still need a github repo (maybe?) to do anything more interesting with it.
I know I'm using Mastodon as tech support a lot lately, but honestly y'all are more helpful than most search engines for some things.
