Thomas N. Bower
Thomas N. Bower was a judge of the Iowa Court of Appeals. He assumed office in 2011. He left office on July 1, 2024.
Bower ran for re-election for judge of the Iowa Court of Appeals. He won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.
Bower was appointed to the court by Republican Governor Terry E. Branstad on December 8, 2011.[1][2] The Iowa Court of Appeals announced on January 25, 2021, that it had elected Bower to a second term as chief judge. Bower was first elected chief judge in 2019.[3] Bower retired from office on July 1, 2024.[4]
Education
Bower received his bachelor's degree from Illinois State University in 1984 and his J.D. from Drake University Law School in 1987.[5]
Career
Bower served as an assistant Black Hawk County attorney and as an assistant city attorney before joining the bench in 1993.[6][5] That year, he was appointed to the First District Court, as an associate district judge. In 1995, Bower became a district judge and later the chief judge in 2010. He served in this position until his appointment to the Iowa Court of Appeals.[7][5]
