Prime Minister Juha Sipilä weighed in on the increasingly heated immigration debate in an address to a gathering of Finnish ambassadors in Helsinki on Monday
According to Sipilä there is much to be improved in how people moving to Finland for various reasons are looked after.
"Each person arriving must be treated as an individual," stated Sipilä.
He warned Finland against becoming closed-minded, something which he said would be fatal for the nation. The Prime Minister reminded his listeners of a passage in the current government programme according to which Finland is an open and international country enriched by languages and cultures.
"It must be stated in clear language that we do not approve of racism, we do not approve of hate speech, nor do we approve of political violence in any form be it in actions or in words," said Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.
