The computer hacker known as "Ryan" stands accused of a long list of cyber crimes that prosecutors say occurred between December 2012 and Sepetember 2013.
Prosecutors say the young man, who was born in 1997, deserves a two- to three-year custodial prison sentence for his role in attacks against gaming servers and other crimes.
Ryan is also suspected of involvement with the black hat hacking group known as Lizard Squad.
The prosecution are accusing the youth of more than 50,000 data breaches. He also faces charges of disrupting telecommunications, aggravated fraud, money laundering and two cases of payment fraud.
"Massive capability"
In an interview with the UK's Sky News in late December of last year, Ryan said he and a small team of hackers thought of the attack on Sony and Microsoft gaming servers as a "sort of game", and did it for their own amusement.
"We have massive capability to take down networks like this," he told Sky News. "This attack was basically done by three people. We had a couple of people form outside the group helping with the attacks, helping us a little bit, but most of the traffic was coming from one or two people."
When Sky News asked him why they attacked the servers, he said, "Mostly to raise awareness – to amuse ourselves."
Ryan went on to say that part of the reason for the hacks was to show how little security the companies were utilising, and "because these companies make tens of millions every month from subscriber fees and that doesn’t even include purchases made by their customers," he said.
