Police hope at some stage to question those still in hospital. One of those - a female police trainee - is still in a critical condition.

Police say their enquiries will continue well into next week while interrogation of the suspect continues.

The 18-year-old man arrested as a suspect in the Hyvinkää shootings is being held in custody on two counts of murder and several counts of attempted murder. The man, Eero Hiltunen, has admitted the shootings. He has expressed remorse but not explained his motive.

On Tuesday, the Finnish Parliament held a moment of silence in memory of the victims. Chairing the session, Deputy Speaker Pekka Ravi reminded that Saturday’s news had stopped the entire nation in its tracks.

“The killings deeply shocked society and the tragedy is impossible to comprehend," he said.
