The Finnish games industry has been growing quickly in recent years and companies say that the sale of a majority holding in the Helsinki-based Supercell to Japanese interests will give the sector a new boost.

"The interest of foreign companies in Finnish games firms is sure to grow," says Jaakko Kylmäoja who is Product Director at mobile apps and games developer Fingersoft.

According to Kylmäoja, the international success being enjoyed by companies such as Supercell is likely to encourage more Finnish game makers to develop concepts and bring them to game companies.

Johannes Vuorinen, one of the two founders of the independent game studio Frogmind says he thinks it is especially important that the companies who bought into Supercell are from Asia.

"It's a tough market for us small game producers. I believe that totally new doors will open," Vuorinen told Yle on Saturday.

Kylmäoja pointed out that markets are rapidly expanding at the same time and the threshold for starting the development of new games is falling.

"Anyone at all can start up a game studio with a very small investment and start distributing them through services like Appstore and Androidstore," Kylmäoja points out.
