Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has confirmed that the company’s plant in the Finnish town of Salo will continue in operation. In an info session with employees in Salo on Wednesday morning, Elop also stated that Nokia needs additional production capacity.
The opening of a new plant in Vietnam is therefore not going to affect the employees in Salo.
The workers coming out of the info session said they were satisfied with the announcement. Many of them added that Elop's speech gave them more confidence about the future.
Elop himself avoided journalists, so comments directly from him are not yet available.
There are a number of reasons behind the development, according to the head of the Association of Finnish Travel Industry.
Beyond trade, Finland and China plan to step up cooperation on mitigating climate change and promoting the green transition.
"It was the first time we tried this, but it will most certainly be the last, at least for a very long time," Metropolitan Area Transport's communications chief said.
