"Everyone, or almost everyone, recognises that the only Father Christmas, the mythical figure, resides on the ice sheets of Greenland," said Jens Peder Tornvig, the convention's spokesman.
Russia's Santa Claus also failed to make an appearance this year. Nevertheless, over 120 Santas and elves flew in for the event from several other European countries, as well as the United States, Canada and Japan.
The date of Christmas celebrations is one of the hot topics at the 53rd annual convention. Tornvig says that most countries favour celebrations on December 24.
"A minority wants to stick to December 25 or January 6, the date of Russian Orthodox Christmas."
The convention is expected to reveal when Christmas will be observed this year on Wednesday.
