Finland's President Sauli Niinistö has a busy schedule this week, as after attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London on Monday, he is headed to the United States.
On Monday evening he is to receive a Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council in New York.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Niinistö will lead the Finnish delegation at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City and then head to Washington DC for bilateral meetings later in the week.
Niinistö is to deliver Finland's national statement at the assembly's general debate opening on Tuesday, the president's office said in a statement.
He is also scheduled to attend a high-level event on the "Christchurch Call against terrorism and extremism," arranged by French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern. Additionally, Niinistö will deliver a video speech at a preparatory event for the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15), according to the statement.
The following day, on Wednesday, Niinistö is to take part in a "Friends of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty" meeting and is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings.
Members of Finland's delegation include Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto (Green), Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari (SDP) and Minister of Education Li Andersson (Left).
Niinistö plans to depart New York on Thursday to hold unspecified bilateral meetings in Washington DC.
