After a four year hiatus, Lorde returned with What Was That in April 2025, a single from her fourth studio album Virgin.
Lorde exploded onto the international scene with her Number 1 single Royals in summer 2013. Born Ella Marja Lani Yelich-O'Connor in Auckland, New Zealand, Lorde received early praise from the late David Bowie, who confessed to the young singer that listening to her "felt like listening to tomorrow"
What Was That peaked the Official UK Singles Chart at Number 11.
