Kate Hudson was embarrassed when she didn’t recognize two key songs from her best-known movies on Thursday in the latest edition of Kelly Clarkson’s name-that-song game “Throw Me a Line.”
The actress and singer, who next stars in the Netflix series “Running Point,” was late to identify “You’re So Vain,” which she sang in the the 2003 romcom “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” and Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer,” which was pivotal to Cameron Crowe’s 2000 rock ‘n’ roll dramedy “Almost Famous.”
“Oh my god!” Hudson exclaimed when she realized she’s missed “Tiny Dancer.”
“That’s like the most famous scene in the movie and you f–ked it up!” Clarkson gloated, pointing in her face.

Kelly Clarkson absolutely lost it on Monday’s episode of her talk show, literally jumping for joy when, at long last, she recognized one of her own songs.
Regular viewers know that in recent years — and at least twice while playing with Anne Hathaway — Clarkson has failed to recognize her own music. For instance, in 2022 while playing “Sing That Name That Tune,” she didn’t recognize “Since U Been Gone.” A year later, she and Hathaway were playing Pop Pop Quiz and Clarkson mistook her song “Stronger” for a different song.
Well on Monday’s episode, she had John Legend on to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his classic debut album “Get Lifted” and they played a game of “Sing That Name That Tune.” The first song had Legend and Clarkson singing the Jackson 5 hit “ABC,” and yes it was delightful.

Few directors have had successful careers with as many wild swings throughout as David Gordon Green has. Green started out with indie classics like George Washington and All the Real Girls before shifting to broader comedies like Pineapple Express and Your Highness. This was followed by a series of films that couldn’t be easily put into a specific box, like Prince Avalanche, the Nicolas Cage-starring Joe, and the vastly underrated Jake Gyllenhaal drama, Stronger. In the last few years, Green has taken another sharp turn, creating a new Halloween trilogy and the failed horror reboot, The Exorcist: Believer. Yet even when prioritizing horror over the last few years, he’s found time to direct episodes of The Righteous Gemstones, just one of many television projects he’s worked on with his frequent collaborator, Danny McBride. Whenever you think you might have David Gordon Green figured out, he finds...

Pre-2018, the idea of David Gordon Green directing a horror movie might've sounded more than a little bizarre. After all, this filmmaker had first risen to prominence on the indie scene with well-received small-scale dramas like George Washington (2000) and Snow Angels (2004). Then, for a while, he seemed to be on a bit of a comedy spree, and achieved more popularity with 2008s Pineapple Express, though Your Highness and The Sitter both released in 2011 didnt really reach the same heights. After some more dramas like Joe (2014) and Stronger (2017), Green made a move to horror.

Lady Gaga fans who were wondering what song she would pull out for Kamala Harris’ final rally in Philadelphia Monday night got a song arguably even more glorious than “Edge of Glory” — Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” — to preface the candidate’s speech. But she didn’t let down those who wanted to hear her own inspirational anthem, returning after Harris’ climactic speech to indeed belt out “Edge of Glory” as the clock struck 12 and election day officially arrived.
“For more than half of this country’s life, women didn’t have a voice,” Gaga said in introducing “God Bless America” while sitting at the piano. The singer spoke of women during that time who “raised children. We held our families together. We supported men as they made the decisions. The first question that pops up in connection to Dito Montiel’s dark crime comedy about a messy family reunion, Riff Raff, is how in hell he assembled such a cast of proven talents. Even if they never really mesh as an ensemble, there are pleasures to be had watching an Ed Harris-Bill Murray face-off, Pete Davidson as a depressed gangster, Gabrielle Union classing up the joint and Jennifer Coolidge bringing the tone crashing down as a sloppy drunk with a mouth like a trucker and a raging libido.
Had all those assets been funneled into a movie with some tonal consistency and a script that built credible relationships, the result might have been a nasty bit of fun. Instead, it wobbles awkwardly between creeping mob menace and scrappy sitcom, inching toward a violent climax that still doesn’t acquire cohesion. Montiel, who remains best known for his 2006 autobiographical first feature,...

One of the buzziest titles premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this year is “Nutcrackers,” and for good reason. Not only is “Nutcrackers” Ben Stiller’s first starring role in a movie since 2017’s “The Meyerowitz Stories,” but it is also director David Gordon Green’s first non-horror movie since 2017’s underrated “Stronger.”

Film Festival as David Gordon Green will open the 49th edition of the festival with Nutcrackers – a dramedy about a workaholic, Mike (Ben Stiller) who has to travel to rural Ohio to look after his recently orphaned nephews. Gordon Green has shored up at the fest with the likes of everything from George Washington (2000), All the Real Girls (2003), Undertow (2004) and Snow Angels (2007) to Stronger (2017), and most recently, Halloween (2018). For us, this is a welcome return to working in a genre that is not popcorn studio horror projects.…...

This year’s Toronto International Film Festival will open with a familiar face: filmmaker David Gordon Green’s latest, the world premiere of his heartfelt comedy “Nutcrackers,” will kick off the festival on September 5. While Green is a regular at the annual festival, screening everything from his Jake Gyllenhaal-starring Boston Marathon biopic “Stronger” to his horror re-quel “Halloween” at the event, 2024 marks the first time he will officially open the fall fest.
The film also sounds as if it marks a return to early form for the longtime auteur, who has spent his most recent years helming a series of horror-centric sequels and remakes, including three “Halloween” films and last year’s “The Exorcist: Believer.” For his newest feature, Green seems to be reinvested in the kind of personal drama that drove early films like “All the Real Girls” and “Undertow,” albeit with a slightly lighter touch.

Kelly Clarkson gifted pop music with one of its all-time most memorable choruses when she released “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” in 2011. But after more than a decade of singing the song at presumably every concert she’s performed since, it all becomes a blur to her. During a recent game of Pop Pop Quiz with Anne Hathaway on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer remembered the words to her own song but forgot she was the one who sang it.

Jake Gyllenhaal is not bouncing from Amazon MGM Studios after “Road House.” The actor’s Nine Stories production company has closed a three-year first-look film deal with Amazon MGM Studios. It sounds exactly like the deal Amazon just signed Ryan Gosling to all of six days ago.

Amazon MGM Studios has closed a three-year first-look film deal with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories following the rousing success of his movie Road House on Prime Video, which was the most watched original movie for the studio ever with 50 million global viewers in the pic’s first two weeks.
Under the actor’s new deal, Amazon MGM will have a first look on narrative features Nine Stories intends to produce for both theatrical and streaming.
Prior to the Doug Liman-directed Road House, Gyllenhaal made the movie Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant with Amazon MGM. The pic was released last year in theaters.

Under the pact, Amazon MGM Studios will have first dibs on narrative features that the actor’s production company makes. The deal includes theatrical, as well as streaming releases.

Jake Gyllenhaal is amid a meteoric rise to the very top of A-list actors in Hollywood. Over the last 10 years, he has been in a slew of dramatic roles, including Prisoners, Nightcrawler, Southpaw, Nocturnal Animals, Stronger, Life, Guy Ritchie's: The Covenant, and, most recently, this year's remake of the Patrick Swayze thriller Road House. These action-heavy roles have expanded his range as an actor and displayed some serious leading man bona fides. He is near or at the top of the shortlist of almost every casting agent and director working in the industry. But all great film careers have to start somewhere, and for Gyllenhaal, that place was in the 1991 Billy Crystal Western buddy comedy City Slickers. He was just 11 years old and had never appeared on television either, so City Slickers was his maiden foray into the entertainment business.

For many, the biopic genre has a negative connotation attached to its name. They have been a staple movie genre, they always perform well financially, yet the audience reception towards stories about the lives of real people has fallen so unfavorably in recent times. The cold response to the plethora of biopics about famous musicians, politicians, and other notable celebrities is not unwarranted, as the genre suggests a factory-like production, with many of the films following similar story beats and characterizations. The trend caught on so much that a parody music biopic, Walk Hard: A Dewey Cox Story, has amassed a cult following. One recent biopic, Stronger, is too poignant and punishing to be mocked by the John C. Reilly comedy. The film is carried by a stellar Jake Gyllenhaal performance that not only subverts the genre's tropes but also demonstrates his unflinching dramatic chops.

Hudson continued, “You all are pathetic and this Chloe [Fineman] isn’t funny. Did you find her on Craigslist or something?”
In the pre-taped sketch, Fineman reprised her impersonation of Spears. This time, the sketch revolved around the “Stronger” singer’s memoir “The Woman in Me.” Clips of the audiobook narrated by Michelle Williams went viral on social media and this is where the SNL idea came from in showcasing the supposed casting process to find the best person for the job.
