The network has ordered a pilot for a new dating format – hosted by Mom and Scary Movie star Anna Faris and Rick Edwards, who previously hosted The Courtship for the network.

Love Takes A Village will see singletons go on a series of blind dates with people looking to win a second date. While the two people on the date know they’re on a dating show, what they don’t know is that the date, which they think is at a restaurant, is actually taking place inside a studio with a live audience watching in secret. At the end of the date, the couple find out who’s been watching them.

The pilot is being filmed in the UK next week.

It comes from Lighthearted Entertainment, the company behind Peacock series Eat Slay Love and Queens Court and Netflix series The Trust: A Game of Greed.

The Challenge’s resident devil, Amanda Garcia, doesn’t hold back when she makes a surprise appearance at the Battle of the Eras reunion.

One episode in and “The Challenge” is already crushing it on the ratings front. The “Battle of the Eras” premiere saw the biggest season-to-season growth on share in the franchise’s history, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Overall, the premiere share for the MTV original was up 63% compared to last season, meaning that 6.6% of all households who were watching TV that night tuned in to watch “The Challenge” this season versus the 4.06% from last season’s premiere episode. “Battle of the Eras” was also the highest-rated season premiere for the franchise in three years, back when Season 37 debuted in 2021.

Ratings for the Season 40 premiere versus last season’s were up 20%. “Battle of the Eras” saw a 0.81 in ratings as opposed to the 0.675 the series saw last season. This marks the biggest season-to-season premiere growth when it comes to ratings in six years.

The 40th season of “The Challenge” is a big one for fans.

After 26 years of making its players endure some of the most physically demanding competitions in reality television history, “The Challenge” is officially over the hill.

The inaugural installment of Perfect Match filmed from February to March 2022, and saw 23 Netflix reality TV singles looking for love. However, they were also competing to be crowned the perfect match. Kariselle was immediately drawn to The Circle season 1 winner Joey, whom she had been on-again-off-again with for two years. Though she briefly considered leaving him for Chase DeMoor, Kariselle and Joey matched every week. They progressed from being boyfriend and girlfriend to getting engaged.

Long-time competitor on The Challenge, Nelson Thomas, was recently involved in a terrifying car crash, and he has a long recovery ahead of him. Though originally a contestant on Are You The One?, Nelson first competed on The Challenge on Rivals III, and has competed on nine seasons in total. Unfortunately, Nelson hasn’t had the best luck on The Challenge. He’s rarely made it to the final and has never won, though given his heart and drive, he could have a chance in future seasons.

Challenge legend Nelson posted a scary update on Instagram detailing his recent car wreck, which seemingly happened on March 5. “I was involved in a car accident,” Nelson revealed, while thanking the individuals who filmed the accident as well as those who helped to pull him out of the car.

Netflix exec Inga Leschek has rejoined German private broadcaster Rtl Deutschland, where she will lead content for its channels and streaming operations.

Leschek was director of Netflix’s nonfiction shows for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Central and Eastern Europe, and Russia, a role she started in November 2021. Her shows included “Queer Eye Germany,” the first international spin-off of the U.S. reality format, and true-crime series “Soering.”

She starts her new role on March 1, reporting to Stephan Schmitter, Rtl Deutchsland managing director of programs and brands.

Leschek was managing director of Rtl Studios (formerly known as Norddeich TV) for seven years, where her credits included Rtl’s German version of “Ninja Warrior,” “Guidos Deko Queen” for Vox, and “Are You the One?” for Rtl+. She also oversaw 99Pro Media.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).

The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. Fans of MTV’s competition franchise, The Challenge, will see Nurys Mateo on The Challenge: Ride or Dies as she makes her rookie debut.

She’s part of an exciting rookie class that includes popular cast members’ significant others, family members, and close friends.

While some rookies have little or no reality TV experience, Nurys brings a background to the show that includes several previous appearances on MTV.

And even though she’s among the newcomers in Season 38, she has the advantage of competing alongside a seasoned veteran during the show.

Viewers will be watching to see if she and her partner have what it takes to reach Tj Lavin’s final and win the big prize money for which The Challenge has become known.

Exclusive: After four years at Verve, veteran unscripted television agent Bill Thompson has joined Vital Artists Agency, reuniting with former colleague Phil Irven.

At Verve, Thompson launched an unscripted division in 2018 and oversaw that area for the agency. His departure followed the July hire of former ICM agent Andy Stabile as Verve Partner and Head of Unscripted. Thompson met with a couple of companies and went with upstart Vital, which was launched in late 2020 by Rebel Entertainment Partners’ Irven, April Yuan and Cal Boyington. They were joined by veteran unscripted executive Nicole Zien earlier this year.

During his Verve tenure, Thompson built a department that packaged and sold over 100 hours of programming including Pants on Fire (Disney +) American Dreams (Discovery +) and the upcoming USA series Barmageddon with Blake Shelton. On the talent side, Thompson brokered Leah Remini’s seven-figure People Puzzler game show deal and the reboot of Kat Von D’s LA Ink.

The 31-year-old reality TV star shared photos and videos on her official Instagram to reveal her sparkling engagement ring.

Her Instagram carousel post was tagged with North Georgia Mountains for the location, as it appeared she and her now-fiance were on a gorgeous outdoor hiking trip when he popped the question.

MTV’s “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” will follow franchise stars Amber Portwood (“Og”), Ashley Jones (“Teen Mom 2”), Briana DeJesus (“Teen Mom 2”), Catelynn Baltierra (“Og”), Cheyenne Floyd (“Og”), Jade Cline (“Teen Mom 2”), Leah Messer (“Teen Mom 2”) and Maci McKinney (“Og”), Variety can exclusively announce.

Paramount+ is forging a UK version of MTV U.S. matchmaking series Are You The One? from Geordie Shore producer Lime Pictures.

The show will debut on the streamer’s UK platform and MTV channels outside the U.S. later this year.

Hosted by British presenter Joelah Noble in the UK, the format follows 20 unlucky-in-love people who are scientifically matched with 10 of their fellow contributors. If they can uncover all 10, they could find both love and a cash prize, as they are paired with a potential match each week to take part in challenges and see if they gel.

All3Media-backed Lime, which also produced MTV’s True Love Or True Lies, is behind the UK version, which Kelly Bradshaw, SVP, MTV Entertainment Brands International, Paramount, said is proof of the network expanding its global formats strategy.

“MTV’s hit reality formats continue to travel and resonate with audiences around the world across platforms.

“Are You The One?” is crossing the pond.
